Metung
This beach house is set amongst the stunning natural surrounds of Gippsland Lakes, in response to the setting the design approach was to celebrate simplicity and modesty via exploring the typology of the ‘simple beach shack’. A compact floor plan has been carefully resolved where the existing shack and the new addition merging to form a complete new house. The two volumes act and engage with the environs via picture windows in the sleeping quarters and a large panoramic window perched above the inbuilt seat in the lounge. With the deck built to the side of the house it also frees up the views creating an uninterrupted vista to the lake. With no infrastructure to the house electricity is provided via solar power, water via water tanks and gas bottles to run the hot water and cooking appliances.
