  • This new house was designed for an empty nester couple who desired the ability to accommodate interstate and overseas friends when they came to stay. The house is set on a block with two street frontages and therefore afforded a formal front entry and a everyday back entry to the house, the house has three distinct levels the basement for entertaining grand children with a light filled terraced courtyard, the ground floor accommodate all of the couple’s requirements for their everyday living and the top level for visitors to stay short or long term with a degree of independence.
The simple timber clad gable roof to the rear extends through the site and transforms as traverses to the front where a complex play on volume and form intersects between the timber cladding and the rammed earthed walls.
